Printer Primer, Canon PIXMA MG5720 AIO
September 24, 2015
Launched back in August with a slew of other Canon PIXMA Printers /strong> units, the PIXMA MG5720 is the lowest priced unit among its brethren, but still packs plenty of features into its sleek, compact frame. It is a 3-in-1 (print, scan, copy) device that has print speeds of up to 12.6 ISO ppm for black, 9.0 ISO ppm for color output, and can print 4” x 6” photos in roughly 41 seconds. The unit weighs less than 14 lbs., and measures 18.0” x 14.6.” x 5.9” (WxDxH).
For starters, the PIXMA MG5720 comes with a 2.5” LCD screen which allows users to preview photos before printing them and also provides an easy and intuitive way to navigate machine menus and functions. Energy consumption on the unit is great with its Auto Power On feature that will power up the printer when jobs are sent, but otherwise only uses minimal energy. As with most new Canon printers, included are software packages that have built-in photo filters, organize your photos, or use HD movie clips taken with compatible EOS Digital SLRs, PowerShot cameras, and VIXIA camcorders and transform them into prints.
With today’s increasingly mobile population, there are several options to allow users to print output wirelessly. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity provides the ability to print from any computer connected to the same local network as printer and with the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app the ability to print from and scan to is extended to any compatible mobile device. Additional mobile printing options include AirPrint™ Windows RT, and Google Cloud Print.
The standard input capacity on the PIXMA MG5720 is up to 100 sheets of plain paper or up to 20 sheets of photo paper. Unfortunately, there is no manual bypass tray on the device for heavier media such as cardstock. Automatic, two-sided comes standard with the unit.
Interestingly enough, while many previously printers have opted to include a black cartridge which is only used for photo printing, the PIXMA MG5720 has gone in the opposite direction and of its five cartridges, there is one specifically for the printing of black and white text documents. All of the cartridges are available in either a standard or high-capacity cartridge, though no information on specific print yields was readily available.
The PIXMA MG5720 is currently available from Canon for $99.99. For more details, you can visit product page on the Canon. web site.
