Announced back in early September with several other printers, the new HP ENVY 5540 could be a great edition to homes and small offices. As this unit is designed to be a wireless printer, one feature that users will undoubtedly appreciate is the self-deploying paper tray that automatically expands when printing, and contracts when not in use. Speaking of its wireless capabilities, the ENVY 5540 has many worth noting. Also the unit supports printing from many smartphones and tablets with Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows 10 Mobile operating systems. The ENVY 5540 is compatible with the HP Printer Control app available for iOS, Android, and Windows devices, further stretching the capabilities of this printer for mobile use. Users can opt to scan files directly from the printer to mobile devices quickly and easily or start a print job. Like many of the other new HP two-cartridge printers, both the black and the tri-color ink cartridges are available in both a standard and high-yield type. The standard yield black is rated for up to 200 pages and the tricolor for 165 pages. The high-yield XL cartridges provide up to 600 black pages, and 415 color pages. Included with the unit is a coupon for one free month of HP Instant Ink. For those not familiar, HP Instant Ink is the company’s program that enables automatic shipment of ink to your door each month for a set monthly fee which varies depending on how many pages you intend to print.
