Printer Primer, Canon MAXIFY MB5320
November 16, 2015
While not a brand new printer to the market, the Canon MAXIFY MB5320 is one of a number of Canon printers that debuted last year and have helped the OEM to make its way into the SOHO and SMB market space. To be clear from the outset, this is not a small printer by any means, but given the robust set of features it possesses, it is as compact as the company could make it. Designed to be a workhorse unit, it is capable of keeping us with even the busiest inkjet environments. It boasts print speeds of up to 23 ISO ppm for black output and up to 15.0 ISO ppm for color, making printing easy and efficient. Also included is a 3.0” LCD touchscreen that allows users to navigate all of the various menus and function of this 4-in-1 (print, scan, copy, fax) device.
Undoubtedly one of the best features of the MAXIFY MB5320 is the variety and breadth of wireless printing options. For starters, it includes the ability to print over a local network with either a wired Ethernet or a Wi-Fi connection. It offers support for Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print so users of iOS and other devices can easily connect to and print their output. Canon also has their own native solutions with the printer including their Canon PRINT app and MAXIFY Cloud Link. The Canon PRINT app installs easily on mobile devices running iOS, Android, and Windows operating systems. MAXIFY Cloud Link provides a means for users to access and print files stored in the cloud from services including Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, and many others.
Another of the key features of the MAXIFY MB5320 is its paper handling. Right out of box, there are 2 trays each with up to 250 sheet capacity for plain paper. The upper tray can also be used to hold up to 20 sheets of photo paper when not occupied by plain paper. Automatic two-sided printing is a standard feature as well as single-pass two-sided scanning from the ADF. As it is designed to be a workhorse unit, it has an impressive monthly duty cycle of up to 30,000 pages.
The MAXIFY MB5320 uses the four standard individual ink colors with separate slots for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Each of these colors is available in either a standard capacity or a high-yield format. The standard cartridges are rated for up to 1,000 pages black and up to 700 pages for each color. The higher-yield versions supply up to 2,500 black pages and up to 1,500 color pages, giving a bit more than double capacity compared to standard ones. The ink formulation in the cartridges is designed to be more dense and resistant to highlighting for better results.
The MAXIFY MB5320 is available from the company for $399.99. For more information on the unit, visit the product page on the Canon website.
