January 4, 2016
Launched back in September 2015 along with several other new printers, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw is a 4-in-1 color laser unit with the ability to print, scan, copy, and fax in one. It is aimed at small offices and businesses and has plenty to offer its users. One of the nicest features of this device is its fairly compact size. It measures a maximum of 16.8" x 25.7" x 16.3" (W x D x H) and though it weighs a hefty 51lbs. Another convenience worth noting is its integrated 4.3" CGD touch screen that is on the top left side of the device and makes navigation of machine features and functions quick and easy. Print speeds on the M477fdw top out at 28 ISO ppm pages for both black and color output.
The connectivity features that exist on the M477dfw includes what you would likely expect on a device such as this and then some. Users can opt for standard USB connectivity, wired Ethernet, and then built-in Wi-Fi. Further options include several features which support true mobile printing. Among these is support Wi-Fi Direct connections for mobile devices which allow the two to communicate without the use of a router and NFC (near field communication) touch to print functionality which makes it easy to authenticate and print with a simple tap of your mobile device onto the unit. Some may find that these options are enough, however the unit also works with HP’s powerful ePrint service, Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, and Mopria Print Service, thereby providing an all-encompassing array of options for users that will work from virtually anywhere. HP also includes compatibility with some of their other built-in mobile apps as well.
As we mentioned in the opening paragraph, the M477fdw has solid print speeds of up to 28 ISO ppm, but it is also worth noting that first page out times are rated at under 10 seconds, which allows for greater efficiency. Not only does the unit print quickly, but it uses HP ImageREt technology which provides Pantone calibrated resolutions of up 600 x 600 dpi. The default configuration for paper input consists of a 250-sheet input tray and 50-sheet capacity multipurpose tray. For users in need of additional input capacity can purchase another 550-sheet input tray, bringing total capacity up to 850 sheets . Automatic two-sided printing is standard on the M477mfw. Also included is a 50-sheet capacity automatic document feeder for unattended scanning, faxing, and copying. The maximum monthly duty cycle is rated for up to 50,000 pages each month and recommended volume is between 750-4,000 pages.
As a color laser, the LaserJet Pro M477fdw uses four individual toner cartridges. Each of the four cartridges comes in both a standard and a high-capacity format. Standard capacity black is rated for up to 2,300 pages and up to 6,500 pages on the high yield cartridge. For the cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges, standard capacity is rated for up to 2,300 pages as well, and high-yield equivalents for up to 5,000 pages. As an added convenience, a 2,300 page black cartridge comes pre-installed in the unit as well as 1,200-page starter color cartridges.
