Printer Primer, Samsung Printer Xpress C480FW
January 15, 2016
Debuting back in July 2015 along with a laser multifunction unit, the C430W which we examined earlier this week, the Printer Xpress C480FW is a 4-in-1 (print, scan, copy, fax) color laser unit aimed at small and home offices. Given its functionality, it is reasonably compact at roughly 16" x 14.3" x 13.1" with a weight of 31 lbs. Like the single-function model, with those dimensions one could place the unit on a desk without infringing too much even on limited space. Print speeds on the device top out at 19 ISO ppm for monochrome output and 4 ISO ppm for color pages. The display consists of a 2-line mono LCD, a numeric keypad, and a variety of other buttons for navigating machine menus and function including one-touch Eco Mode and wireless setup.
The variety of connectivity options available on the Printer Xpress C480FW certainly add to its appeal. There are built-in connections for USB and Ethernet as well as compatibility with Wi-Fi b/g/n connections. Setting it up on the network is straightforward and simple with the WPS button on the control panel located to the left of the LCD. Like the Printer Xpress C430W, the C480FW works with both the Samsung Mobile Print app (available on iOS, Android, Windows, and Kindle Fire platforms) as well as comes ready to work with Google Cloud Printing and Apple AirPrint . Last, but certainly not least, included is NFC (near field communication) Tap and Print functionality that enables Android users to tap their device on the printer to authenticate and print.
The Printer Xpress C480FW has the same standard input capacity of up to 150 sheets at a time as the C430W with no options for further expansion. Two-sided printing is also not an automatic feature, leaving users with manual duplex as the only option for that functionality. As a multifunction unit, the device features an automatic document feeder for unattended scanning, faxing, and copying of documents. To ensure print jobs get processed efficiently, it boasts an 800MHz processor and 128MB of internal memory, both double that of the single-function relative. As with all of the newer Samsung models, it uses ReCP (Rendering Engine for Clean Page) technology and Smart CMS (Smart Color Management System. Both of these latter features help ensure crisp, clear text and sharper images and characters ensuring output always looks its best. The maximum monthly duty cycle is rated for up to 20,000 pages, which should be sufficient for its user base.
The toner setup includes four individual cartridges including black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Each is available in one capacity, however they yield a considerable number of pages. Estimated yields equal up to 1,500 pages for black and 1,000 pages for each color. The unit ships with starter cartridges that yield up to 700 pages black and 500 for each color which give users plenty to get started.
The Samsung Printer Xpress C480FW is currently available from the company as well as Amazon via the link on the top left. For more information on the unit, visit the product page on the Samsung website.
