Canon Continues to Add Printers
Canon has been very busy as of late bringing new printer models to market. Earlier this week, they announced two additional units for their imageRUNNER laser line of devices. The two new models are the Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 and LBP3580 and are aimed at both small businesses and corporate workgroups according to Canon. The new units are reported to provide exceptional usability, are intuitive to manage, and can easily be integrated with existing imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction devices.
Both of these new models are MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) enabled printers as are the previously released imageRUNNER LBP5280 and LBP3480 models. They are capable of delivering MFP workflows to desktop printers. They all use a common tool set which includes the imageWARE Enterprise Management Console, uniFLOW, and unified print drivers as well. With these tools at their disposal, customers are able to create ways to manage printing across an entire fleet of devices.
A great additional feature of these new devices is the server-less Advanced Anywhere-Print (AA-Print) solution. It allows users to print and retrieve their documents from any of the other AA-devices which exist on the their network once they authenticate at the machine. Another related tool is Canon’s uniFLOW which makes it possible for a user to release secure print jobs from uniFLOW document output server which does not require release station hardware.
The imageRUNNER LBP5480 and imageRUNNER LBP3580 are also compatible with Canon’s latest Mobile Printing App which works with iPhones and iPads (running iOS 5.1 or later) and lets users send print jobs directly from their devices to any compatible Canon device. The file types supported included are: Microsoft® Office files (doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx), iWork files, PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, TIFF files, photographs, and web pages.
Both devices support Canon’s imageWARE remote and Canon’s Content Delivery System. Canon notes that the former makes it possible for Canon Authorized Dealers to proactively and securely monitor things such as device usage, relay status, and report errors which results in less down time for customers. The latter gives service providers the ability to remotely deliver any firmware or software updates to customers without interrupting the flow of their workday. With the DeviceLink integration present in these two latest printers, inbound faxes sent to an imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFP can be routed to them, enabling workers to get the information wherever they are. All of the MEAP functionalities provide a robust set of technology to a small-format desktop device.
Both devices come standard with an intuitive five-line LCD screen, making it easy for users to track what the machine is doing. The control panel has on-screen navigation, a scrolling display, and animations which show users how to perform functions. Users may also take advantage of USB Direct Print which makes it easy to print from a USB drive without a computer serving as intermediary. Encrypted Secure Print with an SD Card allows users to store frequently used jobs for quicker printing and supports Email Printing so an email can be sent to the printer and then released with the message and its attachments.
The Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 and imageRUNNER LBP3580 desktop printers are also designed to help customers who want to maintain an eco-friendly office. They are designed and built according to Canon’s strict environmental ethos and also meet both ENERGY STAR and RoHS requirements with low-energy usage. During the warm-up Canon’s RAPID Fusing Technology is used for maximum efficiency and in sleep mode, they use less than 1W of power.
