An Interview with Tosja Backer of DUS Architects
April 4, 2014
With all the buzz that has been created in recent weeks and months about the 3-D printed house in Amsterdam, we wanted to see if we could get the inside scoop from the builders themselves. This interview was conducted via email with Tosja Backer of DUS Architects.
1)Can you provide a brief history and overview of DUS architects (how/when they were formed, etc.)?
2)How long have plans for this Canal House been in place and how did you come to decide to build it?
3)Based on the current progress, when will the house be completed, and what is its purpose (will someone buy it, or has it already been bought)?
4)Is this the first 3-D structure your firm has built? How did you get involved with 3-D printing in the first place?
5)Once completed, will there be other houses constructed as well? What do you see coming down the road for 3-D printed houses and buildings for both yourselves and the architecture industry as a whole in the next 5-10 years?
