Printer Primer, Epson Expression Premium XP-630 Small-in-One
September 8, 2015
Yesterday we took a look at one of the newest units from Epson, the Expression Premium XP-830 Small-in-One® , a well-designed 4-in-1 device offering printing, scanning, copying, and faxing in one unit. At close to $200, even with its value, may be too much to pay for a printer. Today we examine the next printer down pricewise among new Epson units, the Expression Premium XP-630 Small-in-One®.
The XP-630 offers 3-in-1 convenience allowing users to print, scan, and copy from the device, removing the fax capability found in the larger XP-830. There is not much drop-off in print speed between the two units with the XP-630 having print speeds of 13 ISO ppm (black), 10 ISO ppm (color), and 4” x 6” photos in 20 seconds compared to 14 ISO ppm, 11 ISO ppm, and 12 seconds in the more expensive unit. It is also somewhat smaller, measuring 15.4” x 19.8” x 5.4” (WxDxH) and virtually the same weight at about 22 lbs.
The XP-630, comes with a 2.7”LCD touchscreen for easy and fast access to all of machine menus and functions. Like the XP-830, it too provides the convenience of Wi-Fi Direct printing, enabling users to connect and print without needing a router. With Epson Connect, mobile users can easily pair up with the printer and send their output from virtually anywhere. Specific to mobile operating systems, iOS users can print via Apple® AirPrint™ and Google Cloud Print. Also included with the XP-630 is the ability to scan directly to various cloud storage services like Dropbox and Google Drive or upload photos directly to Facebook.
Despite the lower price, the XP-630 shares the same paper capacity as the XP-830 with both rated for up to 100 sheets of plain paper and the dedicated photo tray can hold an additional 20 sheets of photo paper. Users can save paper by using the automatic two-sided printing which is enabled on the device right out of box. The main differences users will find in this device versus the more expensive XP-830 are the lack of an automatic document feeder and auto-extend/retract paper tray. .
The XP-630 uses a five-cartridge ink system including black, cyan, magenta, yellow, and photo black. All of the cartridges are available in either a standard or high-capacity cartridge. Standard black cartridges are rated for up to 250 pages, and the color and photo black 300 pages. The high-capacity alternatives provide roughly double or more volume with black at 530 pages and the color/photo black at 650 pages for each.
The Expression Premium XP-630 Small-in-One is currently available from Epson for $149.99. For more details, you can visit product page on the Epson web site.
