Printer Primer, HP Officejet 3830 AIO
November 5, 2015
Homes and home offices in need of a new AIO device may wish to consider one of the newest units from HP, the Officejet 3830. Just launched back in September along with several other new HP printers this unit is a 4-in-1 (print, scan, copy, fax) functionality to its users. It has pretty much middle of the road print speed of up to 8.5 ISO ppm black and up to 6.0 ISO ppm for color pages and a footprint of 17.71" x 22.55" x 10.66" (W x D x H) when printing. It is also fairly light at just under 12.5 lbs. As part of the front interface of the printer, users will find a very responsive 2.2” mono touchscreen LCD which allows quick and intuitive navigation of machine menus and functions.
Mobile printing support on the Officejet 3830 is certainly one of the unit’s best features. Users of virtually all smartphones and tablets should be able to find at least one mobile printing solution that will work for them and their chosen device with built-in support for Android, iOS, Blackberry, Symbian, Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows 10 Mobile operating systems. Further, the Officejet 3830 is compatible with Wi-Fi Direct connections, Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, and HP ePrint among others. Printing over a home network can be done via Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity.
The paper handling on this device is somewhat limited with an input capacity of up to 60 sheets at once and no possible expansion. Also instead of the automatic two-sided printing that is found on many HP printers, there is only manual, driver-supported two-sided printing. Fortunately, HP has included a 35-sheet capacity automatic document feeder to aid in scanning, faxing and copying. The maximum monthly duty cycle is 1,000 pages, though the recommended volume is between 100-250 pages.
The Officejet 3830 uses a two-cartridge ink system and is also eligible for the HP Instant Ink program. If users choose to buy cartridges themselves when they need them, the black and tri-color each come in either a standard capacity model or a high capacity version. Page yields are rated as up to 190 pages black/165 pages tri-color for standard capacity and 480 pages black, 330 pages tri-color for high-capacity.
The HP Officejet 3830 AIO is available from the company for $99.99. For more information on the unit, visit the product page on the HP website.
