Printer Primer, Brother HL-L6200DWTFebruary 23, 2016 Last week we looked at the new base unit in Brother’s new series of printers aimed at offices and workgroups, the Brother HL-6200DW. Today we turn our attention to another of the new series of Brother printers that was announced late last month, the Brother HL-6200DWT. The big difference between the two units is the amount of standard paper capacity which we will cover later. The HL-6200DWT is a single-function monochrome laser that features rapid print speeds of up to 48 ISO ppm. The interface consists of a 1-lineLCD graphic located on the left of the device situated above an assortment of other buttons which can be used to toggle through machine menus and functions. The unit is fairly compact aside from its semi-substanial height, due to additional default paper trays. The HL-L6200DWT gives users a wide variety of methods to print whether you are right next to it, down the hall, or even out of the building or your house. While working on a home network, users can opt for a wired Ethernet connection or use the device’s built-in Wi-Fi connectivity to free themselves from the burden of a wired connection. Additionally, there exist many options for true mobile printing which are compatible with the device. These include AirPrint (for iOS) compatability, Google Cloud Print 2.0, Mopria Print Service, Brother iPrint&Scan, Cortado Workplace, and Wi-Fi Direct (which allows for direct connection of mobile devices to the printer). Together all of these options provide a robust suite of options that should match up to the needs of the groups of users the HL-L6200DWT is intended for. . Probably the other huge advantage of the HL-L6200DWT is its large standard paper capacity which we alluded to in the above paragraphs. While the HL-6200DW starts with one 520-sheet tray, the HL-L6200DWT doubles that additional capacity by providing 2 separate 520-sheet trays right out of the box. Also part of the unit is a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, giving a standard input capacity of an astonishing 1,090 sheets. If high paper capacity is what you or your office needs, we would suggest opting for this unit that includes the additional tray at a price that is lower than if the tray were bought separately. For even larger paper capacity, an additional 250-sheet tray ($150) or 520-sheet capacity tray ($180) can be purchased. Automatic two-sided (duplex) printing is also supported right out of the box, enabling users to lessen the amount of paper they waste. Security features that protect printing on the device include Secure Print, Secure Function Lock, Enterprise Security (802.1x), and SSL/TLS among others making sure print jobs only go to those that need to see them. The maximum monthly duty cycle on the HL-L6200DWT like its cousin the HL-L6200DW is up to 100,000 pages each month, with a recommended volume of up to 5,000 sheets a month. As a monochrome only printer, the HL-L6200DWT requires only a single black toner cartridge for its prints. Included in the box is a standard capacity 3,000 sheet cartridge, though if you or your office is doing a lot of printing, it may be worth considering either thehigh yield toner (8,000 page) cartridge or a super high yield (12,000 page) cartridge when the initial cartridge prints its last page. The imaging drum that comes with the unit is rated for up to 30,000 pages, so it will provide plenty of printing without any hassles. Currently the Brother HL-L6200DWT is available on from the company for $349.99 as well as Amazon via the link on the top left.
