Printer Primer, HP PageWide Pro 477dw MFP
April 26, 2016
The PageWide Pro 477dw provides a solid variety of ways for users to connect and print. As you would expect, it has all the standard connection options including USB 2.0, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi for laptops and desktops PCs and Macs. However, knowing that the mobile workforce is growing and people want an untethered and responsive printing environment there are several built-in options for mobile printing. As an HP printer, it of course incorporates their native HP’s ePrint solution which makes mobile printing of documents as easy as attaching a file and sending an email. With the aforementioned touchscreen, users have access to a collection of HP Mobile apps which help power business processes and further streamline workflow. Additionally, users of Android-powered mobile devices are able to use built-in NFC (near field communication) connectivity and everyone with a compatible device can use Wi-Fi Direct. For iOS and Windows users on the other hand, the printer works with AirPrint and Windows Mobile OS respectively, and all users can take advantage of compatibility with Google Cloud Print 2.0. Finally the device is certified by the Mopria Alliance, a group of printing industry professionals dedicated to finding a common standard and experience for mobile printing.
Paper handling is another place where this unit provides best in-class features to its users. Like the PageWide Pro 452dw, the 477dw comes standard with 550 sheets of standard input capacity. The capacity is split between a single 500-sheet main paper tray and 50-sheet capacity multipurpose tray. For those individuals and businesses that need more input capacity, another 500-sheet capacity input tray can be added for $199.99, thus providing over 1,000 pages of input capacity. Automatic two-sided printing is also a standard feature of this unit, helping reduce paper waste by printing on both sides of a single sheet of paper. Unlike the single-function 452dw, this is a MFP device, and included is a 50-sheet capacity double-sided ADF that enables unattended scanning, faxing and copying of even large jobs. Built-in, too, are several business-centric scanning functions including Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-Network Folder, Scan-to-USB, and Scan-to-Sharepoint among others. Lastly, the PageWide Pro 477dw has a maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 50,000 pages and security features that allow for secure printing as well as HP Color Access Control to reduce waste.
As with the PageWide Pro 452dw, the PageWide Pro 477dw MFP uses toner that is specifically designed to keep up with high-speed, high-volume inkjet printing. Included are four individual cartridges including a black, cyan, magenta, and yellow which are available in either a standard or high-capacity version. Standard yields are rated for up to 3,500 pages for black and 3,000 pages for each color. The high-yield versions provide more than double their standard counterparts with up to 10,000 black pages and 7,000 color pages. By opting for the higher capacity cartridges, users can lower their overall cost per page to at or below what a comparable laser printer would be. This technology certainly shows proof as to why businesses consider making the switch to inkjet.
Currently the HP PageWide Pro 477dw AIO is available from HP for $699.99. For more information on the unit, visit the product page on the HP website.
